Drawing and Learning to Draw
Every artist needs a practice for drawing because of popularity in current days. The perfection that experienced artists hold and portrait masters have in their work is tricky task, because there are many challenges in figure drawing compared to other art subjects. This is the reason why it is important practice as much as possible with everything you know about drawing. And if you are drawing a live portrait, the challenges become more as the artist and also the viewer (subject), both are closely familiar with the body’s proportions and physiology of the human figure. So, here small mistakes also can be clearly seen. Because of all these reasons even the artist who cab masterfully draw other subjects like landscapes, Seascapes, still life paintings or scenery paintings may also make mistakes while drawing human figure.
But it’s not impossible to draw human figure and become a successful portrait artist. With good techniques, understanding and practice, no one can stop you to become a master artist in making great portrait painting.
Learning to Draw
Most of the people, keep themselves in a wrong conception that, to be a master artist, you should born with talent. But it is a skill which can acquired. Drawing not only depends on techniques and practice but also the observation and understanding is important. If you want to learn to draw, you should start looking at things objectively and able to analyze it. Master the skills of leaving your preconceptions and looking with fresh eye every time you see a subject.
The fact is hum brains stores lots of information, which is not helpful in drawing. In fact it leads to wrong conclusions. People tend to draw from experience, rather than what they see with their own eyes.
For example: If you place a foot ball on a table and with some distance, a tennis ball in front of it, the chances that you make football too large is high because of your prior knowledge of it. The perspective becomes wrong there.
So the good way to drawing know subjects whether it’s a ball, glass or a portrait is leave your preconceptions by pretending that you have never seen the subject before. In my new article, I will discuss about the types of drawing and how to practice them.
Happy Drawing 🙂
